Historical evidence shows us that legionella outbreaks occur more frequently during the summer months, as we are currently experiencing a heat wave, now, more than ever is a time to be vigilant with the control of legionella bacteria in your water systems.

We have produced a simple checklist to give you guidance on whether your control measures are adequate, see below..

In your premises/business: are you compliant with “legionnaires’ disease, the Control of Legionella Bacteria in water systems, The Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and Guidance, L8”.1

Has the system for prevention and control been prepared and initiated?

 

 

3.

Have precautions to prevent the proliferation of Legionella in your water systems been implemented?

 

 

4.

Have you sufficient water treatment programmes and system maintenance in place?

 

 

5.

Have you personnel with sufficient training and instruction to carry out maintenance and treatment?

 

 

6.

Have you a way of recording maintenance programmes and system checks that are clear and easy to check?

 

 

7.

Is there a person with sufficient training and knowledge to be nominated to oversee the management of the control systems?

 

 

 

If you have any ticks in the ‘NO’ column, then you need to review your Legionella risk assessments and safety systems.
